CLARS – Acoustic System for the Communication and Localization of an Underwater Robot
This project is aimed at acquiring and setting-up an acoustic modem-USBL to be part of the navigation equipment for TURBOT, an AUV made from a SPAURS-II unit. The SPARUS-II is an AUV designed and built by the University of Girona to which we have added a vision payload. The vehicle is equipped with a stereo rig, two LED focus and a laser-based structured light source. With this equipment, the TURBOT is mainly dedicated to underwater surveying and 3D mapping. With the inclusion of the modem –USBL, we expect to increase the robustness and safety of the vehicle to address longer and deeper missions.
